DAY THREE
we’re resting at the hotel right now. we had a busy morning.
we woke up, got breakfast, took a walk down the block to see how far away billy bob’s was since we didn’t end up going last night, then came back to the hotel. david was supposed to pick us up at 9am to take us to the indian market, so we went back up to the room to nap until he called to let us know he was outside.
he didn’t call until 11am & then he said he was at the university working & wouldn’t come get us until 2. time is just different here. it’s not as concrete as in the US. if you call the telephone repairman to come to your house & he says he’ll be there on monday, he may not show up until thursday & then he’ll wonder why you’re not off work & at home to let him in the house. david says that here, the person that you’re with is more important than being on time… you don’t want to cut your time short with this person, so the rest of the world can just wait. i kind of like that idea. it might drive me crazy if i lived here, though.
anyway, mom & i walked down to kennedy park, went to starbucks, where i got an $8.50 iced coffee & threw it away after a few sips because it tasted like crap i’m an asshole, walked through parque 7 de junio, sat in the shade for a little bit, went to saga falabella, which is a huge four story department store that sells maybelline like it’s clinique & plays 90s R&B over the loudspeakers. we walked back towards our hotel, stopped at billy bob’s & now we’re waiting for david to come pick us up to take us to bembo’s, which is like mcdonald’s except, according to david, their hamburguesas are “the best all over the world.” we’ll just see about that.
